Our Story
Founded by Walthamstow-based ceramicists Caroline and Wardi, The Quiet Corner is not only their brand for their ceramics work, but also the name of their studio.
Both Caroline & Wardi started their ceramics journey in 1993 through different avenues; Caroline attended Adult Education evening classes in ceramics whilst pursuing her education & career in medicine. Wardi did ceramics as part of his university degree in Fine Arts.
Caroline’s career in medicine led her to becoming a GP, resulting in her being a part of Médecins Sans Frontières medical team based in Asia, and later specialising as a Travel Medicine doctor. Wardi pursued a career in marketing & advertising, becoming an Artist Director for a global advertising agency. However, their love for working with clay has never been placed on the “back burner” and they have been making and creating with clay since 1993.
In 2021, they launch their brand The Quiet Corner. Applying the traditions of simplicity & harmony, and not focusing on trends but delving deeply into creating tranquility within the home and work space, they work out of their modest, well-equipped ceramics studio at Hazelwood Grove, Sanderstead; a quiet corner to throw and hand-build a wide variety of everyday functional wares.
